Hi, I’m Erica Bethe Levin, founder of Globowl and mom of two little ones. I started this company during COVID to ensure my babies had the healthiest food available to them. Our internationally-inspired meals can help reduce picky eating and food allergies while introducing diverse textures, flavors, and an early education on global cultures. We’re committed to creating meals free from nano and microplastics, made with only the best ingredients for your little ones. Period. 🥗🥦🥕
As both a parent and the leader of a company devoted to childhood wellness, I prioritize transparency and your family’s health above all else. We know questions about heavy metals in baby food are important - and finally very out there - and we’re here to address them with honesty and clarity. While "heavy metals" may sound alarming, it’s crucial to understand why trace amounts are found in foods grown in soil - and how we’re laser-focused on ensuring our products do not contain any more of them than is unavoidable.
The Reality of Soil Contamination 🌱
Heavy metals like arsenic, lead, and cadmium naturally exist in the environment (I know, ew-but-true). Over decades, industrial pollution, pesticides, and - ahem - human activities have contributed to their presence in soil. Because plants absorb nutrients from the soil in which they grow, they can also absorb trace amounts of heavy metals. This is true for any food - whether it’s fruits, vegetables, grains, or spices - even the certified organic ones. And even the the homemade meals you lovingly create based on the ingredients you hauled home from the store or farmers' market. Which is why we choose to work with farmers and suppliers actively working to reduce the contaminants in their soils.
Why Globowl Has More Ingredients 🦐🍋🟩🥒🥚
Most store-bought baby food is made with one or two ingredients blended into a puree. Our meals, however, feature up to 62 ingredients across the line-up, including nutrient-dense vegetables, grains, and spices. Because that's how adults eat, that's how people around the world eat, and that's how our babies should be eating. Due to the wide variety of ingredients, it’s possible that our products contain slightly higher trace amounts of heavy metals compared to simpler purees. We are a baby food company, but our meals are flavorful and nutrition-packed in a way that others are not; yet we have to hit the same regulation numbers (all measured in parts per billion) as a pouch that contains only blended sweet potato; mushed up strawberries; or plain pureed salmon. For context: our Pad Thai for Tots contains 25 unique (and organic!) ingredients! We are up for the task though and rigorously test all of our ingredients and products to ensure they meet or exceed the most stringent safety standards.
Our Commitment to Safety 🩺🫶🏼
We carefully source ingredients from trusted suppliers who prioritize sustainable and ethical farming practices and have been requesting heavy metal test results from our suppliers way before it was "a thing" (and when other companies were not). We also partner with pediatricians and food safety experts to ensure that our meals are not only delicious and developmentally beneficial, but also safe for your child. Your baby’s safety is, and always will be, our top priority.
Trust and Transparency 🪟💜
We understand that no parent wants to compromise on safety. That’s why we’re committed to meticulously testing all of our ingredients and products and providing you with clear information on those processes. While trace amounts of heavy metals are unavoidable in any soil-grown food, you can trust that Globowl remains dedicated to delivering the highest-quality meals for your little one(s).
If you have any questions or concerns, we’re here to talk. Transparency is part of Globowl's promise to you and your family, and a personal promise from me as well.
