There’s been a lot of buzz lately about toxins in baby food (and formula)…again. And honestly? It’s the right time. But the wrong spokesperson/people.
Regardless of politics, it's hard to take RFK Jr.’s self-anointed “Make America Healthy Again” crusade seriously when it’s being led by a guy best known for swimming in literal biohazard sludge and claiming that autistic people don't know how to use a toilet.
Do I agree that there are serious problems with the baby food industry? Yes. Am I happy it is getting the attention it deserves? Yes.
Do I think RFK Jr. has the experience, authority, or scientific grounding to lead that conversation? Absolutely not.
But if this moment - however messy - gets more parents to start questioning what’s really in their kids’ food, I’ll take the opportunity to say what I’ve been saying for years:
The baby food system is broken. Our kids deserve better. And moms shouldn’t have to wait for a politician’s soundbite to demand change.
🍎 What’s Actually at Stake
This isn’t just about scary headlines. It’s about the everyday reality for parents trying to feed their kids well in a system that doesn’t make it easy.
The truth is:
-
Most mainstream baby food is ultra-processed and nutrient-poor (how many naturally sweet apples do you think go into one pouch of baby food?)
-
Labels can be misleading, even when they say “organic” (which is why Globowl joined the inaugural group of companies behind the Good Food Collective, a coalition of leading food brands, organizations, and experts taking bolder steps to advocate for greater transparency, higher standards, and innovation in the food industry)
-
Heavy metals are present in many widely sold products, but the inevitability of this due to our polluted soil, air and water also needs to be addressed
-
And families who want to do better often can’t…because of price, access, or flat-out confusion
RFK didn’t discover this. Moms have been living it. And some of us - myself included - have been working to fix it.
🥣 Why I Started Globowl
I built Globowl because I wanted something better:
-
Food that introduces bold, global flavors early when babies are most receptive to new flavors/textures
-
Glass jars - not plastic pouches.
-
Real texture, not drinkable pouches.
-
Science-backed allergen exposure.
-
And transparency from day one.
Because feeding babies isn’t just about nutrients. It’s about exposure. It’s about fostering a sense of curiosity. An introduction to culture. Palate, brain, oral motor, emotional development. And equity.
We can’t talk about public health without talking about the food babies eat in their first year of life.
🛠 What We Actually Need
Instead of slogans and controversial headlines, we need:
-
Stricter regulation and testing requirements for baby food
-
Subsidized early allergen introduction, especially for low-income families
-
Labeling transparency that parents can actually trust
-
Better education around flavor development and oral motor skill building
-
Culturally diverse food options that reflect the families we’re feeding
💪 Moms Are the Movement
Moms are the ones sounding the alarm. Feeding babies real food. Demanding better. Building the future from the high chair up.
